The main task today was one of precision and concentration as, in groups of three, the children worked together to chip away at each of their sections of tree trunk to make a narrower part that would act as a handle for their mallet. That done, everyone could settle down to whittling away the bark on the head of the mallet and to smoothing the wood on the handles. By the end of the day each child had a finished or almost-finished wooden mallet, not to mention a great sense of satisfaction!.
